After Sinus Lift

Because of the close relationship of the sinus, many times when a tooth is extracted, it will leave a communication between the mouth and the sinus.  This was the situation in your case.  Therefore it is important to follow these instructions.

  1. The day after surgery begin nasal saline spray as directed (use 1-2 cups per nostril, 2-3 times a day for 10-14 days).
  2. Take prescriptions as directed.
  3. Refrain from blowing your nose for two weeks.
  4. Try not to sneeze or cause pressure.  If you need to sneeze, do so with your mouth open.
  5. Do not use a straw or smoke a pipe.
  6. Eat soft foods for several days – chewing on the opposite side as much as possible.
  7. It is not uncommon to have a slight amount of bleeding from the nose for several hours and perhaps 1 day post op.
  8. Do not rinse your mouth vigorously for several days.
