Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- If your surgery is in the MORNING: You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) starting midnight the night before your surgery appointment. Again, no water, no liquids and no food of any kind.
- if your surgery is in the AFTERNOON: You may have a light breakfast at least 6 hours before surgery. A light breakfast consists of liquids, 1 egg or cereal or a piece of toast. Do not eat greasy foods such as bacon or sausage.
- No smoking for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany you and drive you home. He or she will be given instructions for your post operative care and should be able to stay with you for the remainder of the day.
- You should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following anesthesia.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with short sleeves and low-heeled comfortable shoes.
- Do not wear lipstick, make up, nail polish, or contact lenses.
- Do not wear any jewelry or other valuables on the day of your surgical appointment as our office cannot be responsible for personal items.
- If you wear dentures, they will be removed at the time of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or upset bowels, please notify the office.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with Dr. Boghossian prior to your surgical date for instructions.
- You will be asked to eat cold soft foods during your post surgery recovery, such as ice cream, Jell-O, pudding, yogurt, applesauce, cottage cheese, etc. Please make sure you have stocked your refrigerator.
- If you are a minor, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the time of your surgery.
- Please use the restroom just before your surgical appointment.
